How big is an Interior Room on Carnival Cruise?
Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information. Unlike some of its biggest competitors, Carnival isn't known for a huge range of cabin categories on its vessels. Wherever on the ship you make your home base, good times aren't far.

INTERIOR
Unless you have a suite, there is no room for a lay-down lounge chair. If your stateroom has a balcony, you’ll have a private outdoor space to relax and enjoy the fresh air. Gourmet dining options, 24-hour room service, world-class entertainment, exotic ports of call, exciting onboard activities, and outstanding service are part of every Carnival cruise, no matter which stateroom you book.

OCEAN SUITE:
By contrast, the line's newer ships have a higher percentage of inside cabins than you'll find on the newer ships of some rival lines. About 44% of the 2,004 cabins on Carnival's Carnival Panorama (launched in 2019) are balcony cabins, for instance. Compare that to the 65% of cabins on Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas (launched in 2018) that are balcony cabins. Each of the vessels in Carnival's recent Vista-class series, for instance, offer fewer than 75 suites. Each of the line's earlier Conquest-class ships have around 50 suites.
Why To Choose Suites?
Oceanview staterooms can be found in nearly any area of the ship, from very far forward to aft-facing views. When considering my options for a Carnival cruise, I researched the different types of cabins available and found that there are various categories of rooms classified as ‘Interior’ that offer unique perks and benefits. While they may be the cheapest and smallest rooms on board, they are perfect for those who prioritize budget and a good night’s sleep. However, the lack of natural light and view may not be ideal for everyone.

As noted above, about 44% of the cabins Carnival Panorama are balcony cabins. But that percentage jumped to 56% on the newer Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration. It will be the same on Carnival Jubilee, a sister vessel to Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration coming out in December 2023.
The Presidential Suites are among 180 suites you will find on Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, the most ever for a Carnival ship. One exception is the new Carnival Venezia, which has a darker (faux) wood finish to furniture in cabins that ties into the ship's Italy theme. Picking a cabin on a Carnival Cruise Line ship isn't nearly as complicated as picking a cabin on, say, a Royal Caribbean or a Celebrity Cruises ship.

Bathroom amenities vary each time, so it’s advisable you bring your own. Samples may include toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, body lotion, razor, antiacids. There is a wall-mounted dispenser in the shower stall (for liquid soap and shampoo). Electric power outlets are located in the desk/vanity area – one 110 V outlet (3-pronged, USA grounded) and one 220 V outlet (European standard). The bathroom’s 2-pin plug can be used only for electric razors.

Other suite perks include priority time assignment at the main dining room, two large bottles of water, pillow-top mattresses, and bathrobes for guests to use during their sailing. When it comes to room amenities, the Interior Rooms come equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a private bathroom, flat-screen TV, and plenty of storage space. However, if you’re looking for more natural light and a view of the ocean, there are alternative room options available, such as the Porthole and Obstructed View rooms. Compared to some other suites on competing lines, this may not seem like much; however, you are guaranteed to have more cabin space than if you were to book a traditional stateroom. A Grand Suite onboard Carnival Panorama, for instance, features 345 square feet of interior space!
Ideal for friends or solo travelers, some even feature small porthole windows, offering a hint of the ocean. Interior rooms on Carnival Cruise vary in size depending on the ship and category. While the smaller ones might feel a tad snug, they offer unbeatable value, especially for those who plan to spend most of their time exploring the ship’s amenities. Suites are also able to accommodate more passengers and standard staterooms, so if you want your entire family in one room, they're a great option. Otherwise, you'll have to consider an ocean view room or two adjoining staterooms.

On most ships, you'll find that the interior space of a balcony cabin measures around 185 square feet, while the balcony portion is around 35 square feet. In comparison, Carnival's newest Excel Class ships tend to have around over 700 interior cabins onboard. On Mardi Gras, for instance, you can opt for a standard interior stateroom or Premium, Family Harbor, Cloud 9 Spa, or Havana interior room. The biggest suites on Carnival Panorama, the ship's eight Grand Suites, have 345 square feet of interior space, plus an 85-square-foot balcony. Contrast that to the biggest suites on Royal Caribbean ships, which can measure more than 1,500 square feet. Keep in mind that some staterooms and features are exclusive to specific ships, so be sure to check out the amenities on board the ship you choose.
On a big ship filled with so many people and so much to do, it’s nice to have a private sanctuary of peace and quiet to go “home” to. The 2,687 staterooms, 61.5% of which have balconies, are, for the most part, just that. These havens of contemporary design are pleasantly fitted out in soothing ash wood tones, cool blue color soft fittings and comfortable, yet practical and thoughtfully designed furnishings.
A hair dryer, a safe, a non-stocked mini bar unit and a flat-screen TV. In my balcony cabin, there was a floor-to-ceiling window and sliding glass door. And within the three basic categories of suites and cabins — Balcony, Oceanview and Interior — there are numerous sub categories.
